CHAFE is a pressure sensitive UHMWPE tape (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) film with a very strong acrylic adhesive. It has high resistance to abrasion (15 times more resistant than carbon steel), self-lubricating properties and extremely low coefficient of friction. The result is a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made.
